Medical disclaimer

What this site can and cannot tell you.

Everything on Preg Med is general information published for a general audience. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a treatment recommendation for any particular person.

No page here knows anything about you — your history, your medications, how your pregnancy is going, or what your clinicians have already told you. Those things change the answer. A midwife, doctor or pharmacist who has that information can advise you; a reference page cannot.

Medicines

Our medication pages describe what a product is and summarise what has been written about its use in pregnancy. They are not a decision about whether you should take it. Do not start, stop or change a medicine on the strength of anything you read here — ask a pharmacist or your maternity team, who can check it against your own circumstances.

Some pages in this archive still refer to the FDA pregnancy letter categories (A, B, C, D and X). That system was withdrawn in June 2015 and is not current guidance. Those pages carry a notice saying so.

Age of the content

This archive was written over a number of years and is being reviewed page by page. A page without a review note has not yet been checked against current guidance. Treat it as background reading, not as the last word.
